Call for GST trade consultative panel:


Constitution of a ‘GST Trade Consultative Committee’ with representatives from various trade and industry bodies across states for lobbying with the GST Council is the need of the hour, said S Rethinavelu, Senior President, Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Stressing that it would be vital to secure the views and suggestions of the trade and industry before finalising the tax rate under the GST regime, Rethinavelu has in a memorandum to the Union Minister of State for Finance Santosh Kumar Gangwar pointed out that it would go a long way in achieving the avowed purpose of GST and obviate tax evasion, harassment and corruption(see more)

Carefully crafted policies unlock investments in infrastructure: Nitin Gadkari

NEW DELHI: Carefully crafted policy interventions not only unlocked huge investments but saw record awards for building 15,948 km highways in 2016-17, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has told the Prime Minister. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Road Transport and Highways Minister Gadkari thanked him for “guidance and careful attention” for a turnaround of the highways sector.

Gadkari said performance in “2016-17 has surpassed all previous figures” with “issue of award letters, after completion of all preproject formalities for 15,948 km, an increase of nearly 60%”(see more)

 Finish all e-way projects by 2017: MoS to NHAI

GURUGRAM: NHAI officials on Thursday morning told Union MoS (planning) Rao Inderjit Singh that ongoing road development projects on Delhi-Gurgaon expresswayare likely to get completed by March 2018.

Singh, who is also the Gurgaon MP, was reviewing the projects, and urged the officials to complete them by the end of this year. He also discussed the prospects of relocating Kherki Daula toll plaza. Construction is underway for flyovers and underpasses at four major crossings in the city – Iffco Chowk, Signature Towers, Rajiv Chowk, and Hero Honda Chowk.  (see more)

India-Lanka JWG to discuss development of port, industries in:

 India and Sri Lanka will set up a Joint Working Group (JWG) to discuss the development of a port, petroleum and other industries in the Lankan city of Trincomalee, the external affairs ministry said today.

The setting up of the group is mandated under the Cooperation in Economic Projects agreement signed yesterday after talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe here(see more)
