Infrastructure: Telecom, power, ports and road sector hit by tepid private investments:

With slippages across sectors but quantitatively higher in telecom and electricity, India’s infrastructure investments in the 12th Five-Year Plan period (FY13-FY17) fell 32% short of target. The just-concluded Plan, which is the last in the series, saw investments of `38 lakh crore in 12 specified infrastructure sectors, compared with the target of Rs 55.75 lakh crore, according to official data reviewed by FE.
Of the amount invested in these sectors in the 12th Plan, the public sector contributed two-thirds. While investment data for 2016-17, the terminal year of the Plan, is provisional, sources said the shortfall could be less than 15% in the case of public investment (Centre, states and PSUs combined), but a sharp 53% for private investments(see more)
Suresh Prabhu flags off high-axle load freight service:

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu today flagged off a passenger train from Punalur to Palakkad and a first high-axle load steel carrier train from Jamshedpur to Chennai. The high axle load train is a customised rolling stock based on the need of customers to carry more goods.
Besides, Prabhu also inaugurated 45 new freight terminals developed with private investment. In the Rail Budget 2016-17, it was announced that railways would develop at least (see more)
Elevated corridor: Expert team to meet next week:

The Expert Committee formed to study the alignment change for the 19-km-Chennai Port-Maduravoyal elevated corridor is likely to meet next week.

VOC Port handles record cargo of 1.62 lk tonne on single day:

Tuticorin (TN), Apr 19 (PTI): The V O C Port here has handled a record 1.62 lakh tonne of cargo on a single day. The previous highest cargo handling in a day was 1.61 lakh tonnes on August 10, 2015, Port Trust Chairman Anandha Chandrabose said in a release.The new record was created by handling cargo, including coal, wheat, fertiliser and lime, the release said (see more)
